So what is an E-Liquid and what is in it?
E-liquid is the common name given to liquid compositions containing several key ingredients for the sole purpose of use with electronic cigarette devices. While e-liquid comes in many different flavors, most compositions available use the same primary ingredients.
Propylene Glycol:
Often called PG, propylene glycol is a very common bactericidal humectants used throughout many industries and found in many household products. It is bactericidal meaning it kills bacteria, and this side benefit helps keep your e-liquid sterile. PG's humectants property means its molecular structure draws water towards it, thereby helping preserve moisture in many foods and cosmetic products we come into contact with every day. It is included in e-liquid for the added bonus of creating the visual effect of smoke, which is actually a vapor and non-irritating to others. Consumption and exposure to propylene glycol is generally recognized as safe in humans.
Vegetable Glycerin:
Often called VG, vegetable glycerin is a common humectants ingredient used in e-liquid. VG is much thicker than PG and also adds a slight sweetness to the vapor while reducing the throat hit associated with higher concentrations of PG. The primary use for incorporating VG into an e-liquid composition is to increase the amount of visible vapor clouds. VG causes significantly larger visual effect than PG.
Flavorings:
Most e-liquids are made using food approved flavorings. These are most often artificial flavors, however that name is misleading. Most artificial flavorings are actually more appropriately called 'nature-identical' flavorings because the molecular structures used in the flavorings composition are identical to those found naturally occurring in nature. The only difference is that artificial flavorings are recreated in a lab synthetically as opposed to naturally in fruits and vegetables where they were first isolated and their structures identified for future recreation. Artificial flavorings offer greater consumer protection from unwanted impurities because there are far more stringent quality controls applied to synthetically produced flavorings verse naturally extracted flavorings in their associated industries.
Nicotine Freebase:
For most users the primary goal of using e-liquid is to provide nicotine. E-liquid nicotine can be prepared to almost any concentration and is therefore sold in a wide variety of strengths from manufacturer to manufacturer. The nicotine is most often used in its naturally occurring freebase form. Freebase nicotine is highly volatile and therefore evaporates rather easily even with the low heat involved in an e-cigarette.
Proper use & handling:
E-liquid should never be used in any manner outside of e-cigarette use, its composition is toxic to humans and animals and should always be kept out of the reach of children and pets. If you ever spill e-liquid you should wipe it up immediately, its often sweet flavors invite naive animals into consuming it and even a small amount can be fatal to small animals. If you spill a large amount on yourself you should remove your clothing and thoroughly shower, the contents of a 30ml e-liquid bottle could be fatal to an adult if absorbed through the skin. Please always be responsible with your e-liquid. It is your responsibility to properly inform others about the hazards associated with it, so please do so.
About Nicotine in E-Cigs
E-Liquids come in different levels of nicotine. We sell levels range from 0 to 36mg/ml. The higher the milligrams a milliliter (mg/ml) the more nicotine in the E-Liquid. The idea is to start at a nicotine level equal to the level that you use and gradually get to 0, where you will no longer be consuming nicotine just flavors. Although nicotine is highly addictive it is basically considered harmless in itself.
